Three genomes. One genus. The heaviest triple-bill in functional genomics history. Explore the complete Chenopodium reference genomes — from Andean superfoods to Mexican heritage crops.
The Assembly
"Quinoa" — The Andes
The global superfood. Domesticated in the Andean highlands over 7,000 years ago, C. quinoa boasts a complete amino acid profile, exceptional drought tolerance, and the heaviest genome in the genus. Our v2.0 chromosome-level assembly spans all 6 pseudomolecules.
"Huazontle" — Puebla, Mexico
Mexico's heritage vegetable. Grown for its tender inflorescences and nutritious seeds, C. nuttalliae (huazontle) has been a staple in Puebla and central Mexico for millennia. This first chromosome-level assembly reveals the genomic basis of its unique branched-ear morphology.
"Cañihua" — The Andes
The high-altitude survivor. Thriving at 3,800–4,200 m, C. pallidicaule (cañihua) is the most cold-tolerant grain in the genus. Its compact genome encodes frost resistance mechanisms that could transform high-altitude agriculture worldwide.
